Applications - Scenario 1

Reduce energy consumption by partitioning off vacant data center space with
PlenaForm baffles and turn off un-needed CRAC units. Lower your whole life costs.

Example: A new data center build-out only requires ½ of the data center to be occupied by equipment over a 2 year growth cycle. Partitioning off  unused space makes economic sense.

"Installing
PlenaForm baffles under my raised floor to direct air to the required areas, I was able to shut down 5 of my 8 twenty ton air handlers. This saves my organization thousands of dollars a year in electricity and maintenance costs.”

Denny Hug
Vice President Data Centers, Connectria

Approximate Savings from turning off 5 CRAC units for one year:
7-10K to operate or 7K x 5 units = $ 35,000.00
12-15K to maintain or 12K x 5 units = $ 60,000.00
Approximate net energy savings for one year = $ 95.000.00 Approximate cost to partition a 60 ft. run  (included labor) =

$ 2,528.00
One Year ROI = $ 92,472.00

Applications - Scenario 2

“By partitioning off two major corridors in our data center with the PlenaForm baffle system, we had increased cold air static pressure dedicated for our server racks. The increase in air pressure was measured at nearly 15%, and the temperatures were 10 degrees cooler at the tops of our server racks.

This was an inexpensive solution for solving our data center hot spots. It’s fantastic how many uses this product has and how easy it was to install.”

"We partitioned off one long 8 ft. wide corridor, the entrance ramp and some un-occupied space, plus we created a partition under the floor with PlenaForm baffles from the CRAC unit over to our hottest aisle in our room.  Surprisingly our CRAC unit #1 reduced it’s operation by 50% and CRAC unit # 2 by nearly 75%. Our servers are operating 8-12 degrees cooler than prior to the installation of PlenaForm. We are currently pulling together our data about how much money this installation saved us.  Our total cost was about $ 900.00, plus we installed it ourselves in one day. It really does work."

"We have a 6 year lease on a 30K data center space and only about 30% of the square footage is currently used. We partitioned off the unused space, were able to turn off 4 air conditioners and plus we have more concentrated air where our equipment is. Initially we spent about $ 5,600.00 on PlenaForm baffles and we are looking at saving approx.$ 66,000.00 a year x the 5 years left on our contract if we never grow into the rest of the space. What’s cool is that if our rack deployment grows and we need to move the baffles, we can just cut the cable ties and move it."

DC3. Floor height at this location: 18"

"We outsourced our print operations, which was in our data center on the raised floor, but in a separate room. Running out of room in our open office area and having this leftover space, we installed 8 workstation cubicles and put down carpet tiles in this old print operations area. The carpet helped a little but people were cold so our employees started bringing in space heaters to put under their desks. The CRAC unit which was on the adjacent wall to this room ran all the time. We installed PlenaForm baffles right under the wall all the way around this room and our employees are so much more comfortable. It is a quieter place to work and the space heaters are now gone too."

"We were only utilizing about 50% of our new Data Center build-out. A/C was free to spread into the un-occupied space. We considered purchasing another 20 ton CRAC unit to counteract this spread of cold air before we found out about the PlenaForm System. Our total cost to install it was about $ 1,600.00 and our in house maintenance person installed it himself in 2 days. Not only did we reserve capital, our servers are operating about 10 degrees colder than prior to the installation."

PLENAFORM® is out of site - but not out of mind.

Partitioning off un-occupied space Saves Energy !

"We were looking for a way to partition off our un-occupied raised floor space in our new data center to get more concentrated cooling for our servers when we heard about PlenaForm® Systems. It was easy to cut around all of our conduit and power feeds. Our maintenance personnel installed about 60 feet of it in just one day. Our servers are operating anywhere from 4-8 degrees cooler and we are very pleased with the results."

Facility managers know what it costs to keep their centers operating efficiently.

The key words are "sustainable facility".

The PlenaForm® baffle system is not fancy nor does it require electricity to operate. It is a holistic tool used below the floor that gets the job done, directing and blocking airflow very simply and inexpensively. Plus, you can easily relocate it just by cutting the cable ties...how easy is that?
